Trust in the middle

When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” Exodus 13:17 NLT

Trusting God during the journey to purpose isn’t always easy. A lot of times we question why would He take us down the less scenic road, filled with endless challenges and difficulty. If given the opportunity to write a different script, we would write it differently every time, but trust is where sight fades and faith takes over.

In the text, God has just freed the children of Israel from captivity. Instead of taking them through the shortest route, He takes them through the wilderness, because He knows they may try to return to Egypt if they encounter a battle. I’m certain they were left questioning why freedom appeared so uninviting. The wilderness didn’t resemble their idea of the freedom they dreamed of as slaves in Egypt. They were suddenly left having to trust God in the middle of their journey. They had to believe that the same God who delivered them was able to lead them to the promise spoken to their ancestors.

The beauty of God is that the promise NEVER changes. Even though, the route that God chooses to take is often unexpected, it will never affect the ultimate destination. When faced with doubt and uncertainty in the middle of your journey, trust that God is still in control. Trust that He is strategically guiding you through the middle and the great things prepared for your life will never change. There is an expected end to your journey and it will always be great; never allow the middle to cause you to question the plan. Trust in His infinite wisdom and let it guide you to your promise.

This is good….the promise doesn’t change but the route sometimes does…

The road to promise and purpose is an intentional one. There is one specifically designed for each of us, and we can’t measure our progress based on how those around us seem to be doing.
