But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt.” So He said, “I will certainly be with you… Exodus 3:11-12
When Moses asked God, “who am I?”, God simply responds by saying, “I will be with you.” God’s response is powerful. He doesn’t speak to who Moses thinks he may be or what affirmation he may desire in that moment. God’s first word is “I”. It confirms in that moment that Moses’ identity is now rooted wholly in God. His life no longer belongs to him. It doesn’t exist. Our purest and truest identity is when God fully inhabits our life. When there is no more “us” in the way. God uses those who stay out of His way. Those who don’t fight His will, but completely surrender. The more we get out of His way and allow ourselves to be filled with Him, the greater the works we do on earth.
God fill me up completely with You. Teach me how to surrender daily to Your will. Teach me how to recognize that my former life is gone and my complete identity now rests in your hands. I need you God. I need to hear Your voice and feel Your touch. I’m letting go of my life as I knew it, to walk into whatever plans You had for this life before You formed it.
